SITE PREPARATION

To assure proper construction or delivery and easy access to your new building, be sure the necessary site preparation is done prior to delivery or construction.

All of our buildings are built with pressure treated base materials which can be placed directly on the ground. However, three better methods are suggested.

1. Gravel, Slag, or Stone Base
If ground slope of intended site is less than 12", this method is recommended. Mark an area approximately 2' wider and 2' longer than the building, this will allow for proper water drainage. Remove a few inches of top soil and replace it with 4-6 inches of 3/4" limestone or other desired material. Spread material evenly until the pad is level. In order to make your pad level, the use of a transit or other type of laser level is recommended.

2. Pole Foundation
If ground slope of intended site is more than 12", this method is recommended. Buckeye Barns will dig holes and then set pressure treated pilings into the ground. The floor system of the building is then built on these pilings.

3. Cement Pad
Sometimes a cement pad is preferred or required by building code. This method allows the building to be set directly on the pad, it can be anchored to the pad or the floor can be eliminated and the walls can be anchored directly to the pad. When choosing this method, please ask your representative for more information.

Pole Base Foundation

When your building is built on site, block supplied by the customer is an acceptable means of site preparation unless slope of ground exceeds 12". It is recommended to overestimate the amount of block needed to ensure enough for the construction crew to properly level your building. If your building is delivered already built, block is not recommended as a means of site preparation.

DELIVERY METHODS

1. Factory Built or Pre-Built
Buildings can be delivered pre-built. Less waiting time is normally an advantage of having your building delivered as a pre-built. There are size limitations however that don't allow some buildings to be delivered pre-built. In contrast, there are some buildings that can only be delivered pre-built. Talk with your representative to see if pre-built is the right delivery method for you.

2. Built on Site
Most buildings can be built on site. Sometimes having your building built on site is the only option available because of size. Also, due to a customer's landscaping, fences, and overhead power lines, it is not always possible to get our delivery trucks to the intended site. Having your building built on site can be both educational and entertaining!

3. Kits
All Buckeye Buildings can be purchased in panelized pre-fab kits in sizes up to 12x20. Ask your local authorized representative for more information on pre-fab kits.

MAINTENANCE

Buckeye Barns recommends staining or painting your building within 90 days of its construction. If you want that natural or stained look, we recommend Sikkens products. If you want to use a latex paint, we recommend Sherwin Williams products...be sure to ask for your Sherwin Williams Preferred Customer discount card that is good on all Sherwin Williams products for a lifetime!

After the initial staining or painting, regular routine maintenance of the product by the owner is suggested (staining, painting, caulking, leveling adjustments, and keeping vegetation from growing around the edges).
